"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better."
- Albert Einstein
A York-based non-profit design consultancy that focuses on the combination of health + wellbeing, nature-centric and bioinspiration to learn, connect + work with nature.
I've always been interested in the natural world from spending my child playing in the countryside and coastlines of Scotland. Having initially trained a real estate advisor working on projects across Europe, I found myself working in Scandinavia that led to a change of career and training in design.
I have a passion for systems-thinking led him to rediscover taking inspiration from nature and how we can use this to innovate, from large-scale city plans, through to packaging designs. With the push for sustainability in this field, I felt that at the built environment level, this combination has the opportunity to address many of the challenges we are facing in the 21st century.
I'm a member of the Urban Design Group, Global Biomimicry Alliance, Circular Economy Club, European Biomimicry Alliance, a Living Building Challenge Ambassador, and Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.
In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing basketball and spending time with my family at the allotment.
All the best,
Richard James MacCowan
